The metal stamping company was founded by Archibald Woods Paull Sr. in 1878 and originally named, The Nail City Lantern Company. Their principle product was lanterns, however they also made other numerous metal and glass items. Archibald Woods Paull Jr. reorganized the Company in 1897 and renamed it Wheeling Stamping Company, however the lanterns were marked "PAULLS" in honor of their founder. Wheeling made lanterns until 1946 when the lantern division was sold to the Dietz Company. Wheeling continued into the 1990s, concentrating on collapsible metal and plastic tubes (toothpaste tubes).
