This Set of Four R-Way Mid-Century Modern Solid Oak Chairs would make a bold statement in any mid century décor. The chairs encompass the streamlined appearance and sleek, uncluttered, clean lines that Mid Century designers wished to emulate. Designers were looking for a refuge from a war-tattered world and found solace in the warmth and strength of lighter woods, hence the use of oak. This simplicity of the line design is what makes mid-century modern furniture continue to be relevant in today’s homes. The chairs hail from R-Way Furniture Company in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. R-Way Company came into being in 1949. Originally founded in 1881 as The Mattoon Manufacturing Company, upon the death of its founder, George B. Mattoon in 1904, the company's name was changed to Northern Furniture Company. The company was bought out in 1916 by the Reiss interest of the C. Reiss Coal Company and continued to manufacture furniture under that name until the name was changed in 1949 to R-Way. R-Way continued to manufacture furniture until it ceased to exist in 1993. This Set of Four R-Way Mid-Century Modern Solid Oak Chairs measure, 32.50” h X 21.25” W X 21.25” D each, have the original pale green vinyl upholstery, original finish, and the original R-way stamped label.
