Plate XXVIII from Jacob Henry Studer's Birds of North America
Plate XXVIII is a vintage chromolithograph from the famous
Birds of North America
book by Jacob Henry Studer (1840-1904). Published by the Natural Science Association of America,
Birds of North America
was a systematic table of the birds of North America arranged according to the classification adopted by The American Ornithologists' Union. Plate XXVIII depicts the Yellow-billed Cuckoo in figure 1, the Crested Tittmouse in figure 2, and the Cardinal Grosbeak in figure 3 and 4. The coloring technique used was chromolithography. This replaced coloring prints by hand, making it a more affordable means of capturing the color. Plate XXVIII has been professionally matted and framed and measures, 21.75” H X 14.75” W X 01.00” D, including the wooden frame.
