Descent into the Valley of Wyoming (Pennsylvania), circa 1840, is an antique hand colored steel engraving, drawn by British landscape artist, W. H. Bartlett (1809 - 1854), and engraved by G. K. Richardson. Bartlett made several trips to the United States to gather sketches of mostly eastern landscapes for American author Nathanial P. Willis’s, American Scenery, or Land, Lake, and River: Illustrations of Transatlantic Nature, published in 1840. Bartlett studied under Gerome at the Beaux-Arts School in Paris, and exhibited at the Salon of French Artists, Society of British Artists, Royal Academy, Grosvenor Gallery and New Gallery. Descent into the Valley of Wyoming (Pennsylvania), including the frame measures, 10.50 inches H X 12.50 inches W X 01.25 inches D, and has been professionally mounted and framed.
