| This American Antique Solid Oak Washstand with Towel Rack, circa 1880, is a reflection of America’s past when indoor plumbing was not the norm. Constructed out of solid oak the commode washstand has an incised backsplash and straight-lined towel supports that blend together nicely with its classic straight-line incised chest and incised panels and base. The chest has three hand-pegged drawers with the original hardware, one single top drawer and two smaller drawers. The cupboard below, originally intended to store the chamber pot, would perfectly accommodate bed and bath incidentals. Typically the washstand had a bowl and water pitcher placed on the top of the chest, so the towel rack came in quite handy. This Antique Solid Oak Washstand with Towel Rack measures, 49.50 inches H X 31.00 inches W X 16.25 inches D, and has a paneled back, door front, and sides. |
