Take home a piece of America’s past with this Alaska Star Solid Maple Icebox, circa 1910, manufactured by The Alaskan Refrigerator Company. The Alaskan Refrigerator Company originated in Michigan City, Indiana, in 1878, and by 1891 The Muskegon Improvement Company offered them an incentive to relocate to Muskegon, Michigan. At that time The Alaskan Refrigerator Company was known as the largest maker of home iceboxes, and by 1892 they were filling forty-two large trains with four thousand iceboxes annually.

This Alaska Star Alaskan Refrigerator Company Icebox was manufactured in their Muskegon, Michigan factory and is constructed out of solid maple with a galvanized steel interior. Although originally intended to store ice this icebox could be used as a kitchen island or used to store all sorts of incidentals, canned goods, pet foot, bottles, etc. The Alaska Star Alaskan Refrigerator Company Icebox was restored by its previous owner and measures, 40.75 inches H X 31.50 inches W X 16.25 inches D, and has the original cast brass hinges, original cast brass door catches, and the original steel wire shelves. The Alaska Refrigerator Company Alaska Star original label is below the left hand door as well as a label from Rhinelander Airtite Refrigerator located on the center front.

As a side note, The Alaska Refrigerator Company was purchased by Codak Corporation in 1926, and later sold in 1931, to Borg-Warner, becoming part of the Norge Division, which ceased operations in 1961.
